July Meeting: State of Our City - What’s Up with SLO?

"State of Our City: What’s Up with SLO?"  Presented by Ken Hampian-City Administrative Officer of San Luis Obispo

Date: Tuesday, July 8, Garden Room, Madonna Inn, 11:30-1:00 (Regular meeting time)

Hear from our City Administrator what the forecast is for current and future economic, employment and business trends in our city and county, and how they will affect our immediate and long-range plans.  Ken Hampian has been serving in San Luis Obispo’s City Government since 1989, giving him a unique and informed perspective to share with us.  He started with the City of Oxnard in 1984, than came to SLO as an Assistant City Administrative Officer in 1989.  In 1996, Ken received the prestigious John S. Nail Award, presented annually by the League of California Cities to one assistant city manager in the State for outstanding performance.  Ken was appointed by the City Council to follow John Dunn as City Administrative Officer of San Luis Obispo in April 2000, and officially began this job on January 1, 2001, where he has since been doing an outstanding job.  We are excited and fortunate to have Ken share his knowledge and experience with us.

Donate your used cell phone, and help our soldiers call home!

Cell Phones for Soldiers GraphicHRACC Member, Kathy Smith, HR Director of Founders Community Bank, is heading the local collection effort to recycle used cell phones into valuable calling cards for soldiers serving overseas. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families. Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving abroad. Used cell phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone –- enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers away from home.

Please show your support by donating your phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers at our next HRACC luncheon meeting, or by dropping them off at Founders Community Bank at 237 Higuera Street, San Luis Obispo.
